Dax’s new single “Man I Used To Be” was released on August 1st, 2025 and it has got to be one of the most personal tracks we’ve ever heard from him. It’s raw, emotional and filled with the kind of clarity and discipline that he was really going for. I don’t want to say it’’s “another song” because this single is more than that. Dax has never hid from who he is but the lyrics to this release show a man with years of discipline and self-growth behind him. This song was created after he challenged himself to stay sober for six months, and the strength and acceptance you can hear in his voice is incredible.

His writing is on point and the story he tells through the song is so heavy. You can hear that it’s coming from an honest place and the production is just the cherry on top. Jimmy Robbins from Nashville took care of the production end of this release and there’s not much more to say about it. It’s hard hitting without taking away from Dax’s voice, and what makes this song so good to me is that Dax put all of himself into it. You can tell by the way he sings and the emotion you feel that this track was made in a genuine, real moment. Dax himself even said he felt like “God was in the room” when recording this track.

Dax has always been real with his lyrics and fans, and this track is no exception. It’s truly a gift to fans that he waited until he was in a clear state of mind before recording and releasing new music. I can’t wait to see what else Dax has to give us and I feel like this single was just the foundation for an already incredible Lonely Dirt Road Tour coming in October. One of Dax’s mottos has always been “Music for the people, spread by the people” and this new release couldn’t fit that quote any better. It’s honest, it’s emotional, and it’s likely to be one of Dax’s most defining songs yet.
