Kendrick Lamar is catching heat from fellow Los Angeles rapper Dody6, who took to social media this week to air out frustrations over their collaboration on the track “Hey Now” from GNX — and the perceived lack of support that followed.
In a candid and emotional video posted Monday (April 21), Dody6 revealed that he’s currently facing homelessness. “I lost my house. I’m homeless,” he admitted. “On Crip, I admit that. I fell down. But I’ma bounce back, watch this.”
He then addressed those assuming his feature with Kendrick had transformed his circumstances. “That song with Kendrick? That ain’t change shit,” he said bluntly. “What the fuck did that change, n-gga? I’m still in the 40s. Still out here. Y’all act like I got a million dollars from that. The only thing I got was some clout — and fuck clout.”
Dody’s frustrations intensified in a text exchange with No Jumper’s Adam22, in which he wrote: “Post I’m on meth. I don’t give a fuck. Post ‘Dody is on meth’ and say K-Dot is a bitch for not tapping in.”
While Kendrick has yet to respond, the timing of the controversy is notable — as he continues making major moves outside of music. The Compton icon was just announced as the new face of Chanel’s eyewear line, marking a milestone in his ongoing fashion evolution.
Speaking to The Business of Fashion, Kendrick said: “Chanel has a timeless legacy, and that’s something I can get behind. Since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses.”
Chanel’s fashion president, Bruno Pavlovsky, added: “Eyewear is more than a simple accessory — it’s part of Chanel’s allure. Kendrick represents the boldness and vision we champion.”
The campaign, reportedly shot by renowned photographer Karim Sadli, is expected to launch later this week.
