Kevin Gates has ignited a surprising feud with NBA icon LeBron James after making critical comments about his wife, Savannah James.

In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday (April 19), the Baton Rouge rapper shared his unsolicited take on the couple’s marriage, specifically how Savannah carries herself in public when around her husband.

“He’s one of the greatest players to ever play the game — but I wouldn’t trade places with him,” Gates began. “I don’t like the way Savannah looks at LeBron. I like the way those white women look at him — like they’re in awe. Savannah acts like she’s just there to keep him in check.”

He continued, “[LeBron’s] spirit is so loving and giving. It hurts me to see that dynamic. You’re diving on the floor for that man and she’s giving off warden energy. I couldn’t do it, bruh.”

LeBron didn’t let the criticism slide. Shortly after, he responded subtly yet firmly by posting a series of loving photos with Savannah on social media along with the caption:
“Kings don’t concern themselves with the opinions of peasants. Where to next, Queen?!?! Let’s get it!”

Gates then responded in another Instagram video, dialing back the tension but sticking to his point:
“@kingjames, I’m way less than a peasant. I’m a servant of Allah — and I love you, bruh,” he said. “The truth hurts, but it heals. I already know she was like, ‘You gonna let him say that?!’ But I only care about you being celebrated.”

Savannah James kept things classy and low-key, appearing to fire back with a playful clapback via her Instagram Stories. She posted a clip of Nicki Minaj looking confused and saying:
“What? Umm, chile… anyway, so.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Gates’ own romantic life is heating up again. He recently went public with model and influencer Brittany Renner, posting a video of the two cozying up during a car ride while he serenaded the camera.

Their connection isn’t new — Renner got a shoutout on Gates’ 2022 track “Super General” and starred in the music video for “Bad For Me.” After a brief lull, they seem to be reconnecting, especially after Renner converted to Islam, disavowed alcohol and premarital sex, and embraced a new lifestyle — similar to the one Gates has been promoting in recent years.
