Recorded at one of Uusikaupunki’s favorite spots, Studio 59 in London, “Only with You”, the title track of his new EP ‘Only with You’, is an aching chronicle of love lost. Raw and vulnerable, it captures his emotional state during the time of its creation, produced in a way that makes the listener feel present in the room. There’s space to breathe notes occasionally drift slightly off-tune, edges remain rough, and lo-fi textures pop and hiss throughout. Built inside an East London art gallery, the studio was crafted to match the aesthetic Uusikaupunki envisioned. With no auto-tune and mostly first or second takes making the final cut, the song radiates human authenticity. Each lyric feels as if it’s being sung in real time honest, bare, and full of emotional texture.

Sonically, the track draws influence from Neil Young, John Lennon/Yoko Ono, Sonic Youth, and Klangbuin. The layered guitars are soaked in reverb, echoing the atmospheric tension of Sonic Youth. The lyrics are devastatingly simple, with the emotional weight of Lennon’s post-Beatles work. Uusikaupunki doesn’t shy away from fragility his vocal delivery cracks where it needs to, making the vulnerability even more potent. While the rest of the EP gradually eases into shades of funk and 70s soul hints of Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes creeping “Only with You” remains in its own emotional orbit. It lays the foundation for the entire record, not through showiness but through stillness and intimacy.

It’s like seeing the skin of the music unfiltered, exposed, and emotionally raw. Every inflection, every minor pitch shift becomes part of the story. When the music returns after a moment of silence, with a gently repeating strum, it feels like it’s unraveling but it never truly breaks. The echo of the opening line feels real, as if bouncing off the studio walls. As the first track on the record, it sets a tone of openness and quiet self-exploration. It doesn’t offer closure, but it captures the ache of love and the questions it leaves behind. Uusikaupunk’s decision to highlight imperfections feels intentional: life isn’t polished, and neither is love. “Only with You” embraces that truth, offering listeners something tangible, honest, and deeply moving.
