Lil Wayne says he’s lost all interest in performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, claiming the NFL “stole” the moment from him by handing it to Kendrick Lamar this year.

When Kendrick was announced as the 2025 halftime headliner, the Young Money icon made it clear he was disappointed, especially since the game was being held in his hometown of New Orleans — a stage he had openly dreamed of owning, both as a die-hard sports fan and local hero.

Now, in a new Rolling Stone cover story published Thursday (April 17), Weezy revealed that not only did he skip this year’s performance, but he no longer cares about ever doing it.

“Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he said. “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”

Wayne also shared that leading up to the announcement, the NFL seemed to be signaling that he was in the running for the gig — even encouraging him to step into more high-profile events.

“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” he explained. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”

When he ultimately wasn’t picked, Wayne said the NFL shrugged it off, telling him: “We ain’t in charge [of the Super Bowl halftime show].”

He added: “All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say.”

Even though he didn’t attend or tune into the game, Wayne still made his presence felt with a Cetaphil commercial that teased the release date for Tha Carter VI.

In the new interview, he shared more about the project, revealing guest appearances from Miley Cyrus, U2’s Bono, opera legend Andrea Bocelli, Machine Gun Kelly, dancehall icon Elephant Man, and his 15-year-old son, Kameron.

Production credits include Wyclef Jean, Wheezy, and possibly Kanye West. Tha Carter VI drops June 6.
