With “Song for Pete Ham,” released on 16 June 2026, LY@TT transforms admiration into an unforgettable tribute. Instead of relying on nostalgia alone, the Charlottesville-based quartet honours the legendary Badfinger songwriter by confronting both his brilliance and the tragedy that ended his life. Inspired by Pete Ham’s suicide note and enriched with references to beloved songs from his catalogue, the composition captures remembrance with honesty and remarkable sensitivity.

Paul R Johnson and DC Williams share the spotlight through a duet that feels balanced and deeply expressive. Their contrasting voices guide the narrative naturally, while prominent backing harmonies from Venezuelan guest singer Kleidi Buroz provide richness and emotional lift. The careful interaction between the three singers creates moments that linger long after the final note fades.

The arrangement reflects exceptional attention to detail. Rick Skinner’s guitar recalls the signature slide style associated with Badfinger’s Day After Day, offering a respectful nod without losing individuality. Johnson’s synthesizer section broadens the soundscape, Williams strengthens the foundation with melodic bass and acoustic guitar, and Ed Booth’s first-take drum performance supplies impressive drive and precision that gives the recording continuous momentum.

Formed by musicians from Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, LY@TT draws upon decades of friendship dating back to 1988 before reuniting in 2024. Working from Studio 607 in Ivy, Virginia, with producer Tim Ryan, the band has created a release that honours one of rock’s forgotten heroes with integrity and care. “Song for Pete Ham” is not simply a salute to the past; it is a thoughtful reminder that great songwriting continues to inspire new generations of artists willing to preserve its spirit with respect and passion.
