With “Omega Origin” the group enters a more extensive and ambitious phase, the album bringing together heaviness and melody. The songs feature heavy riffs combined with atmospheric production, progressive elements, electronic details and symphonic aspects; clean vocals are presented together with growls and screams, and large, chorus-driven hooks give the record a strong melodic quality. The end result is a modern metal sound which alternates between intensity and accessibility without shedding its darker traits.
The main themes of the album are darkness, struggle, uncertainty, and hope, all set against the background of a troubled world. This concept provides “Omega Origin” with a definite emotional focus, especially in its treatment of the “beginning of the end” and the possibility of renewal following destruction. Instead of viewing darkness as something final, the album also allows for resilience and implies that something new can come about after everything has been destroyed. The contrast between despair and hope forms a significant link between the atmosphere and the songwriting of the record.
The album ‘Omega Origin’ has also gained from the blending of individual songwriting concepts and collaboration among the whole band; most of the tracks started with ideas from Johan Karlsson, whereas ‘She Is Me’ began with vocalist Alice Hartvig, the material then being further developed as a group. Karlsson was in charge of producing the album, with the mixing carried out by Karlsson and drummer Sebastian “Seppo” Lindgren, who also mastered the record. The singles ‘Poison’, ‘Alone’ and ‘Life Lost Love’ were released in advance of the album’s launch on September 18, each being accompanied by a music video.
Continuing in the direction they had set out in their “Altar” EP, “Omega Origin” enables We Are To Blame to broaden their creative approach. The album combines melodic hooks, heavy guitar playing, atmospheric textures and different vocal styles all while keeping a clear link between its musical character and its themes. By fusing alternative melodic metal, progressive, electronic and symphonic elements, the album provides We Are To Blame with a solid basis for the next phase of their artistic development.
